This photograph captures the pattern of decorations, both above and below the line of the roof, of one of the many buildings making up the royal palace grounds in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Repetition, color, and fancy all play their roles in charming those who walk these grounds.

An avid student of photography for most of my life, I carry my camera bag with me both on international trips and for everyday activities. In my work, I am always looking to capture those beautiful and intriguing moments that surround us all the time, but which we so often tend to overlook in the face of everyday temporal pressures. These may be the shape of a leaf or a snail shell, the placement of chairs in a cafe, the unexpected texture of a rock or tree, or the varied colors of a shop or a wharf. On international trips, I seek to capture what makes each place special in an increasingly homogenized world.
