In a Buddhist temple in the Schwedagon Pagoda complex in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma), a monk meditates among the glitter of mirrored pillars. In contrast to the monk's deep focus, a fragmented image of the photographer is captured in the nearest mirror, and a plastic bin by the monk's side reminds us of daily existence.

An avid student of photography for most of my life, I carry my camera bag with me both on international trips and for everyday activities. In my work, I am always looking to capture those beautiful and intriguing moments that surround us all the time, but which we so often tend to overlook in the face of everyday temporal pressures. These may be the shape of a leaf or a snail shell, the placement of chairs in a cafe, the unexpected texture of a rock or tree, or the varied colors of a shop or a wharf. On international trips, I seek to capture what makes each place special in an increasingly homogenized world.
