A scarce California brown pelican soaring overhead looks almost prehistoric against a featureless northern California sky. With a wingspan of roughly seven feet, this bird, unlike the more common white pelican, plunges into coastal California waters from as high as 65 feet, scooping water and fish in its huge beak.

An avid student of photography for most of my life, I carry my camera bag with me both on international trips and for everyday activities. In my work, I am always looking to capture those beautiful and intriguing moments that surround us all the time, but which we so often tend to overlook in the face of everyday temporal pressures.
